Each week Amanda [Running with Spoons] hosts Thinking Out Loud Thursday. A chance for us to do some brain-dump blogging. And to hang out with fun people.

Remember Summer?  Yeah.  It’s gone.  This week was all about 50’s.  And some 40’s.  And very little 70’s.  (That’s Fahrenheit.  That’s like…5 degrees, and 10 degrees and 20 degrees, respectively, in Celsius).  Leaves are changing.  Temps are dropping.  I am excited.  🙂 🙂 Fall is my favorite.

I’m also gearing up to celebrate Fall during the month of October by doing another daily Vlogging challenge.  Uhm.   Didn’t August’s challenge just end?!  Anywho…this year we’re doing VlogTober for the month of October.  You can click here to learn all about it… You guys should all join us.  🙂 It’s a great way to get your Vlogging-Legs and you don’t actually have to vlog every day 🙂

Last Friday I went a little crazy in the Yarn – Dyeing Department.  I tried my hand at dyeing after finding this Knitty article about dyeing with Kool Aid a few years back.  I’m not sure what made me randomly want to do it again, but I did.  So. Much. Fun.

I even made a little clothes line over my sink for it to dry on 🙂 yarn2They’re just so cute and squishy and I loveeee them.  🙂

Top row (L-R): Grape, Lemon Lime, Mixed Berry, Pink Lemonade, Cherry

Bottom Row (L-R): Lemonade, Pomegranate Blueberry, Seafoam (mixed berry and lemonade), Dark Lavender (mixed berry and black cherry), & an attempt at mustard which turned orange

So.  Now…I have a bunch of tiny skeins of dyed yarn.  Not sure what I’ll do with them…or what I’ll dye next, but now I know what all the colors look like.  🙂

After I dyed yarn I decided that I apparently needed to COOK ALL THINGS.  Including…Pumpkin Spice Chocolate Chip Cookies [Vegan/Gluten Free]Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies AND Pumpkin Spice Cake

Mexican Baked Potato Soup [Vegan/Gluten Free]Spicey Baked Potato Soup (which you read about on Tuesday) and…stuffed artichokes…and pizza dough for later in the week.  Let’s just say we’re doing a – okay in the leftovers department.

I’ve been working on my running speed.  < Not because I want to be a speed demon … but because I’d like to run further distances, and when you run a …13 – 16 … minute mile, it takes a lot of time to run a long ways.  🙂 I’ve been concentrating on running my first mile with great form and speed.  I broke the into the low 13-minute mark (13.07 and 13.09) a few weeks back, and figured I would stay there a while.  On Saturday I decided to dust off the running shoes (after taking last week off) and go for a run.  When my watched beeped for the first mile I looked down and couldn’t believe it.  CaptureDude.  That’s under 12 minutes.  🙂 🙂 If anyone has any advice on sustaining speed through additional miles…or…yeah…anything please – I’m all ears.  🙂

Over the weekend I also got a MAJORLY AWESOME package from my good friend Fe.  I have totally been enjoying all of these goodies this week.  Plus. Tons of new tea flavors.  < That’s totally what I need, right?! fe packageThe phD application process has began again for Nathan.  Which means…lots of random texts (well, actually, usually google hangout messages…but YOUKNOW) that say “heyyyy check out this town…It has a Costco” or…”This town has a Target”.  I’ve done lots of “town” reading this week.  #ReadyToMove.

I think the rainy-chilly Sunday got to Indy as well.  He decided he needed to cuddle.  But only with my foot.  He’s working hard at tricking everyone into believing he’s a super duper sweet cat.  BTW.  He’s not always.  indyAnd, in true Crazy Cat style, on Monday night Indy gave us a major scare.  He’d been fine since we got home, but he didn’t come up to bed when we were getting ready to go to sleep (which is a-typical) – so Nathan went down to check on him and found him in a low-blood-sugar stupor.  He was walking around the kitchen leaning against the wall and acted as if he couldn’t see or hear.  He put his face down in his water bowl and couldn’t get it out.  Since he is a diabetic, we know this is a major emergency.  We took out the bottle of maple syrup and started rubbing it on his tongue.  Sometimes this will do the trick and he’ll perk right up and eat his dinner (which he hadn’t touched yet), but it only got worse.  He was going in and out of consciousness by the time we got him in the car.  We called the emergency vet (which we adore – that’s where he goes regularly so they know him well), and they were ready for us when we got there.  When we arrived his blood sugar was only 50 (180 – 220 is normal for him) – and – remember – he’d had about a teaspoon of maple syrup.  They had to give him an emergency dose of dextrose (sugar), among many other things.  They kept him overnight, too (at this point it was about midnight).  At 530am when I called to check on him his blood sugar was still not stable.  But, at 9am his regular vet had gotten to the office and called to tell us that he had finally stabilized at about 90 for the past few hours, but they still needed it to climb back up.  His blood sugar continued to climb throughout the day, but they still felt he was unstable Tuesday night – so he spent another night at the vet.  As of when I’m writing this (Wednesday afternoon), we’re hoping to get to take him home tonight.  🙁 🙁 🙁 Poor little buddy.  The house was scary-silent last night without him.  Two years ago I never would have guessed he’d be this embedded in my every day life.  Feel better, LittleMan.IMG_20140912_134048

  1. Poor Indy 🙁 Keeping my fingers crossed that the little guy starts to feel better! And I’m with you on being so very excited for fall! The temps here actually climbed back up this week after being super cold last week, and I’m not impressed. I don’t want heat waves in September! I want cozy sweater weather and an excuse to stay in my warm kitchen and bake!
