Wednesday Thursday! I really love 3 day weekends (Memorial Day, for those of us in the States), but it totally throws off my blogging schedule. < First World Problem Alert. But, alas, it’s time to Think Out Loud!
This Spring weather? It needs to stay forever. Getting daily < DAILY! doses of Vitamin D has made me extra happy. Over the long weekend, there was lots of outside time. On Sunday I wanted to run – but needed something different. I decided to branch out and go run on a trail that I’ve been on for walks and photography a lot, but never to run. And – never to run by myself. I’m trying to be more adventurous in my runs to keep them fun – and it worked. I fell in love with this trail. So beautiful. So peaceful. So quiet. And? On the way home? My little 14 year old “engine that could” car finally hit 90K. I know – 14 year old car with not very many miles – but I live less than 5 miles from almost everywhere I go on a weekly basis – and with a bad transmission, it rarely goes anywhere further. By the way – anyone want to buy me a new car? 🙂 By the way. ^ That is the same lake as the picture above from my run. Sometimes I have to remind myself that they’re both beautiful. And it makes me super happy for sunshine right now 🙂
Also this weekend? A ton of awesome food!
Oh! And while we were out shopping we stopped in an antique store (uhm. are we getting old?!) and found THIS:^^^ Nathan’s family (STROH!) created Stroh’s beer (and Stroh’s Ice Cream). So this totally had to come home with us. 🙂
Homemade salsa – Yes. Yes. Yes. Uhm. I ate the entire batch of this already. I made it Sunday morning and decided I wanted to eat it for breakfast < yep. So, I added black beans < protein – and proceeded to eat 4 bowls of it. I also added Jalapeno Balsamic (from our new stash). Again … amazing.
Sunday Monday night (see, day off = confusion) Nathan-family dinner? Awesome. Salad with (again, from the stash) onion olive oil and vanilla orange vinegar, black bean and corn salad, roasted Brussels and a new risotto recipe – with butternut squash, mushrooms and greens < oh wow…loved it!
And? I trimmed my own hair. Ha! This may not be as exciting as the pictures above, but I did it! I cut my hair short 2 years ago after the Wedding (I WAS SO SICK OF MY LONG HAIR), and it hasn’t been cut since. It grew excruciatingly slowly. But, the split ends were getting so bad, that I’m pretty sure they had grandchildren split ends. So, I bought some hair scissors, and whacked off two inches. I think I did a decent job 🙂
Late Monday night I was scanning through some old Instagram pictures (while thinking about how awesome the weekend had been), and I saw this picture – from this month last year. I had been working incredibly long hours – and I got home really late one night, and Indy – who, at the time – hated being touched and held – jumped into my lap, and broke my heart.
Seeing this picture made me even more grateful for such an awesome weekend with family and friends and sunshine and good food. (Also. Poor kitty was so sick and skinny in this picture! He weighs twice and much now! < Way to go kitty cat (and insulin!))
So…Hug the ones you love. Go stand in the sunshine. Eat the good food. Walk to work. Do what makes you happy. Because life is awesome. And life is short.
